In 2016, we at Deligate set a goal that within five years we would have halved food waste in the stores we work with, and that no food should be thrown away unnecessarily. Since then, the discussion about a sustainable future, and food production in particular, has turned out to be one of the biggest causes of climate emissions. Now ICA Group's Head of Sustainability and CEO writes that ICA will reduce all its food waste by half by 2025.

A strong sustainability plan has become an increasingly essential part of a company's future vision and operations. Both smaller and larger players are taking responsibility for a more sustainable planet, which is good evidence that we are moving in the right direction. There are also global goals set by the UN that by 2030 both stores and consumers will halve their food waste(https://www.globalamalen.se/).

ICA also has the vision that other stakeholders, companies and entrepreneurs should be able to contribute to positive social development and that waste should also be reduced in this way. Companies today have great power to influence and perhaps even guide for the better. Stores that use solutions such as lowering the price of goods that have bad dates, reselling food through apps or donating grocery bags give the signal that the store is aware of the problems we face. This in itself makes the store more attractive to people who want to contribute and benefits stores that fight for the environment.

Today, stores must take their responsibility, there is no other way out. And for a major player like ICA to take such a big stand is an extremely big step in the right direction. The fact that they have also identified the problem makes it even more relevant to find solutions to it - and among these solutions is Deligate.
