The waste staircase (or food waste staircase as we call it) is a staircase with five different steps that clearly show the waste process. Deligate and MyPrint, our printer, each hit one of the steps and we thought we would explain our role and importance in it all. We've also added how other companies work for the different steps, so we'll go through the steps for each step.e will go through the staircase step by step.

1. Preventing waste

Deligate works to prevent waste. We want to prevent food waste from occurring in the first place and ensure that the goods are found in good time so that they do not become a residual product. A date checklist keeps track of the store's expiration date and ensures that you never have expired goods on the shelves. This means we are doing the groundwork for step number 2.

2. Reuse

When a product is in poorer condition or close to expiry, it is not as attractive, unless the product has a lower price of course (or you buy it for the sake of the environment). MyPrint is our printer that quickly prints labels to lower the price of goods. The product takes on a new value and can be sold at a lower price.

Karma is a company that ensures that food does not go to waste but is sold at the last minute, often at half price. Another way to recycle food is through companies that make new dishes from expiring ingredients.

3. Recycle materials

If a product cannot be prevented or reused, the material can be recycled. An example of this is Tomra, a manufacturer of deposit recycling systems.

4. Energy recovery

If you have material that cannot be recycled, the material can be incinerated and turned into new energy, which is what Vattenfall is working on.

5. Landfill

The last step is landfill. This is for materials that do not have a last resort so the material disappears from our cycle. You can landfill waste at many waste disposal sites around the country.

This staircase gives an overall picture of the waste process and the importance of businesses at each step. Without these business ideas, we would not be able to prevent waste to the extent we do today. We at Deligate are happy to have such a large and important part of the process and to be able to be the starting point for waste reduction.
